Ancient Egyptian textile fragment from Tanis San el Hagar dated AD 395 – 642

Portion of linen tunic, tapestry woven ornament in red wool with rosettes embroidered in undyed flax, stitched to the tunic with flax thread. Border of applied woven band in blue wool with design in undyed flax thread, stitched to tunic with flax thread.

Plain woven linen ground. 13 warps per cm. 22 wefts per cm. Approx. every 5 cm two threads form one weft forming a light striped effect to the plain linen. Rosette – 12 warps per cm. Decorative border – 9 double wefts per cm.
