Ancient Egyptian textile fragment from Tanis San el Hagar dated AD 395 – 642

Three fragments of a tapestry woven panel and border attached to fragment of red wool tunic. Panel and border on a flax warp. Design of birds and flowers with a crested border worked in red, yellow and black wools and undyed flax. Most of fine black wool has perished.

Tapestry pieces – 14 warps per cm Z twist tightly twisted. Red wool fabric – Plain weave. 12 warps and wefts per cm.
