Ancient Egyptian wooden hand from Abydos dated 945 – 715 BC

Wooden human hand, laid flat. Probably from an anthropoid coffin lid. Three holes in base for attachment. One goes right the way through to the palm back but is blocked by a broken dowel. The other two are finer, possibly modern. Most of the surface is covered with a layer of white plaster or gesso, the surface of which has yellowed, possibly a glaze over the paint which has degraded.
