Ancient Egyptian wooden hand from Abydos dated 945 – 715 BC

Wooden human right hand, clenched into a fist. Probably from an anthropoid coffin lid. Two large holes in base for attachment, which go right through to outer surface, and a Cluster of four small holes, possibly modern. Most of the upper surface covered with a layer of white, possibly plaster or gesso, which has then been painted yellow, with an ovelaid grid of black squares on most of the back of the palm. Across the first and second fingers of the knuckles, the gesso and paint have largely gone. is a hole between thumb and forefinger, possibly for a wooden implement.
